Roy's Bakery

  • Description

This photo is important to me because this is my Grandad's shop, Roy's Bakery of Tynemouth. His name is Roy Thompson, he is now 81 years old. Q1 I know you that you had five shops but why was Roy's Bakery of Tynemouth your favourite? A1 It was my favourite shop because I grew up in Tynemouth and also it was my very first bakery shop. Q2 What was it like growing up in Tynemouth when you were my age? A2 Tynemouth was a great place to live when I was your age and still is. I had seven brothers and sisters, we used to spend our days playing hide and seek at Tynemouth Priory or football on King Edward's Beach. Q3 Do you have any interesting stories about your bakery? A3 The bakery, in Tynemouth, was very popular, people used to queue outside the door to buy the hot fresh bread and Strawberry Tarts. Q4 Why do you think your bakery was special to Tyneside? A4 I think it became a good meeting place for the local community right in the heart of Tynemouth.
