    Plaque for Jack Hatfield on site of former Middlesbrough Swimming Baths. English Swimming Champion, Olympic Medal-winner and World Record-holder Jack Hatfield (1893-1965) had long-standing family links with Middlesbrough Swimming Baths, formerly on this site. He was the owner of a well-known Middlesbrough Sports Shop. Born in 1893 in Jack Hatfields father Tom was the baths Superintendent. Jack was an English swimming Champion, world record holder and Olympic silver medalist in the individual swimming, relay and water polo teams in the 1912 Games in Stockholm in Sweden. He later went on to set up and manage the family sports goods store Jack Hatfield and Sons Ltd in Borough Road, Middlesbrough which is still open today. He died in 1965.
