Description
Full title reads: "Shrovetide Football at Alnwick and Ashbourne". Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Various shots of annual football game involving entire town. There are few rules. Crowds of men and boys fight for the ball - even wading in rivers and streams. Town is divided into to two teams - those who were built north of river and those born to the south. Alnwick, Northumberland. L/S of ball being thrown into crowd from battlements of Alnwick Castle. Various shots of similarly anarchic football match. An annual tradition, the large crowds of men fight to score goals.
