Description
Item title reads - Miner dancers. Newbiggin's team straight from pit's mouth, rehearse for forthcoming National Folk Dancing Display. Durham. L/S as the coal miners walk out of the pit entrance. M/S as they are handed sticks, they take their jackets off and one man get his accordion. M/S as the men stand in a circle with their sticks in the air. Aerial view as they start dancing in the circle then twirl around each other interweaving the sticks in a pattern, they come into the middle and form a circle then spread out into a line. The boy in the middle is holding the sticks which have been interwoven. They start dancing on the spot then jump in the air. Intertitle - 'Full dress rehearsal looks like Merrie England back again.' L/S as they walk along in their costumes, the leader is wearing a patterned suit and black top hat, another man is wearing a dress and hat with the same pattern. M/S of the dancers in dark knee breeches, long white socks and white shirts with cummerbunds around their waists. They dance in a circle and the other two run around the outside and through the middle, one man is spun backwards over the stick.
