The photograph shows the Lord Mayor's Coach containing the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff travelling down John Dobson Street to the official opening of the road. Crowds have gathered by the side of the road to see the procession. Northumberland Baths and the City Hall on Northumberland Road can be seen in the background. Opposite the Northumberland Baths is the headquarters of the 'Northumberland Universities Contingent. Officers Training Corps'. Several soldiers in dress uniform are standing at the back of the crowd.
