    Type : Photograph Medium : Print-black-and-white Description : A 1930 photograph of the Great Hall in the Castle Keep Newcastle upon Tyne. On the left wall is a large fireplace with a mantel and an ornately carved overmantel. To the north of the fireplace there is a fresco from the old House of Lords. There is a stone popinjay on either side of the fireplace. The walls are decorated with armour weapons and coats of arms. Banners of the great North families are attached to the upper part of the walls. Pieces of decorative stonework have been placed around the walls on the floor. The two popinjays are from Lumley Castle and are the supporters of the family's arms.
