    Type : Photograph Medium : Print-black-and-white Description : A view of Castle Stairs Newcastle upon Tyne taken c.1930/31. The view is looking up Caslte Stairs through the South Postern. At the top of the first flight of steps there is a clogmakers shop to the left. Clogs are hanging outside the building. Built as a way up to the Castle from the Quayside no-one was allowed to trade in the vicinity of the Castle but were allowed to trade in the buildings on either side of the stairs the Scottish traders discovered the loophole in the law and set up businesses there Collection : Local Studies Source of Information : '1326.
