    Type : Reprographic copy Description : A copy of a photograph of 'Tommy on the Bridge' taken c.1905. Tommy is standing on the Gateshead side of the Swing Bridge. He is surrounded by a group of people.Tommy was a blind beggar who stood on the Swing Bridge. His real name was Thomas Ferens and he was thought to have been born in the Close in 1842.
