Remains of Medieval fishponds near Sewing Shields

  • Description

They lie just to the north of the site of Sewingshields Castle and may have been associated with that building. The exact location, form and extent of the castle itself are not precisely known although it is assumed to have been a pele tower, recorded in 1437 and ruinous by 1592. It is shown on maps as a rectangular platform in a corner of the neighbouring field. Photo by Andrew Curtis, 24 March, 2014, Geograph, CC-BY-SA 2.0
