    North Bitchburn Coal Co. Ltd., Howden le Wear, Co.Durham North Bitchburn A shaft was sunk in 1840 and at this time Henry Stobart & Company worked the pit. This changed to the North Bitchburn Coal Company Limited, and from 1934, the North Bitchburn Fireclay Company Limited. Joseph Pease and Partners were also associated with this colliery & brickworks.
