Mill House from Richardson Road

  • Description

"A 15 storey tower block of flats in the Newcastle suburb of Spital Tongues. It was built in the early 1960's by Newcastle council under the chief planning officer, Wilfred Burns. This was when the council leader was T Dan Smith who instituted a programme of replacing old terraces with modern flats. Smith was later jailed for corruption, and afterwards came to live in a flat in Mill House, rather ironically. He died there in 1993." Photo by Robert Graham, 2024.
