Helmington Row Primitive Methodist chapel

    ....Thanks to Anne Leyburn for highlighting two former Primitive Methodist chapels, next to each other on East View, Helmington Row. Both chapels are in 2024 in residential use, and both carry their opening date carved into the stonework. The older chapel was opened in 1855 and is built of stone. The later chapel is brick-built, much larger and carries the date 1913. Durham Archives include minute books and accounts from 1922 – 1985 which implies it closed around then. It was in the Crook circuit.....
