    "Carved stone post by the A686, in parish of ALSTON MOOR (EDEN District), Fore Street, to West of Town Hall, at junction with A689, set in churchyard wall, on East side of road. Haydon Bridge stone, erected by the Hexham to Alston turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- ALSTON -.TO.- MILES HEXHAM 23½ PENRITH 19 BRAMPTON 20 MIDDLETON 22 STANHOPE 21 Grade II Listed.
