The Barracks, Main Street

  • Description

"Pevsner says "The Barracks, 1730, is interesting and seems to have been built as a semi-detached pair [MQ: there is a former doorway (to the right of the blue door) which has been blocked up fairly recently - unfortunately with "random" sized stones rather than even sized ones laid in courses like the rest of the wall]: it is said to derive its name from having been used as a leadminers' lodging." See also [[1287660]]. The building is Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1044814?section=official-list-entry ." Photo by Mike Quinn, 2009.
