Old Roman Milestone in field off the A683, Middleton parish

    "Carved stone post which was on the A683, in parish of MIDDLETON (SOUTH LAKELAND District), Hawking Hall, now in field behind Middleton Church (200m from find spot) 74m West of the road, near a tree (SD 62280 85885) - need permission from farmer to visit, on West side of road. Roman milestone, erected by the Government in the 3rd century. Later inscription reads:- : MPL / SOLO EBVP / RESTITU / CVL MOO / AD MDCCCXXXVI : (restored from the soil by Giles Moore 1836) Grade II* listed.
