Craghead

Description
Craghead grew due to the need for coal. It was originally a hamlet of a few houses and John's Castle Inn, and was part of Holmside parish in 1869, becoming an independent parish in 1912. In 1841 the Thomas Pit was sunk. The closure of the Busty mine in 1968 (56 years after it had been sunk) ended coal mining in Craghead.... -
