Hexham Bridge

Hexham

  • Description

"The Tyne crossing at Hexham has had a chequered history. There may have been a bridge across the Tyne as early as the 13th century but there are no certain records and throughout many centuries, the crossing was by ferry. In the late 18th century, two bridges were swept away in quick succession by floods. Fortunately, this magnificent stone bridge, built in 1793, has survived rather longer."
