Description
A chapel to St Philip and St James is mentioned here in 1289. It was pulled down in 1830 and the present church erected on the site. An Early English corbel is all that remains of the chapel. No trace of the chapel exists. The corbel is preserved just inside the south door. Whittonstall Church. Previous building recalled as being very small and very dilapidated, with an arch in the west wall and ruins further westward, no belfry and three small windows in the east end.... -
