View from the top of customs tower on Roa Island looking Southwest across the coastguard cottages and lifeboat station at LMS Hopper No 2 and cargo ship SS Arnotegi - Mendi aground on the foreshore. Photographer on foreshore. Railway buffers in foreground. Piel island in the mist right. Ship was carrying 6,000 tons of iron ore from Almeria to barrow for the Askam and Millom Ironworks. The hopper came off the Piel Island Jetty on the evening of the 20 Jan and Arnoldi- Mendi was expected to be refloated on the next high tide.
