Holy Trinity, Sunderland

  • Description

The church is a Grade I listed building built 1718-19 in brick with stone mouldings around the doors and windows. It isn't known exactly who designed it but it may have been William Eddy who was a well known local architect. It became the Parish Church when the new Parish of Sunderland was created 9 March 1719 - it was consecrated 5 September 1719. The churchyard was closed in 1854 but the church wasn't closed until 26 Jun 1988 when it was transferred to the Church Conservation Trust. It isn't now a place of worship but is used as a community venue and cutural arts centre.
