Tynemouth Royal Infirmary Extension (lost) and Cenotaph (extant)

  • Description

This memorial was originally composed of i) a three-storey, brick built extension to the existing Victoria Jubilee Infirmary Hospital, later renamed the Tynemouth Royal Infirmary; ii) a dedicatory stone tablet in the entrance hall of the memorial extension with a wavy border and a relief carving of a physician holding children's hands; and iii) a semi-circular wall by the roadside with a cenotaph at centre, featuring a large bronze plaque depicting in relief the Angel of Healing and Peace bringing solace to the word. The extension was demolished around 2000 and the stone tablet lost, however the wall and cenotaph are still in place.....
