BRIDGE OVER SIPTON BURN ON THE LONG DRAG - Allendale - List Entry

    Bridge, dated 1878 with initials W.B.B. on slab on external face of west parapet. Squared stone with cut dressings. Lofty bridge spanning a ravine, side walls with marked batter. Round-headed arch slightly recessed from wall face. Flanking pilasters. Band below parapet, arched parapet coping with blocks linked by iron clamps. The bridge is associated with the Long Drag, a well graded mine road used for carrying lead from the Allendale mines over Allendale Common to Whitley Chapel and Hexham....
