"Milbourne Arms" - December 2016 (1)

  • Description

"Of the 18 pubs recorded as trading in Caldewgate between 1894 and the start of the State Management Scheme in 1916, only three still trade - the "Jovial Sailor", the "Joiners Arms" and the "Milbourne Arms". Built in 1852, the "Milbourne Arms" was acquired by the State in August 1916 and sold to Greenall Whitley on 22 May 1973. Known at various times as the "Milbourne Arms Inn" or the "Milbourne Arms Hotel", a photograph dated 1901 shows a brick-built structure, which appears to have been plastered-over at an unrecorded date. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with this business and cannot advise on its products or services." Photo by The Carlisle Kid, 2016.
