Stainton

  • Description

"The east front dates from c1744 and may have been designed by Edward Hasell whose house this was. The attractive pinkish stone is from Stainton. Unusually there is no pediment to emphasise the centre or counteract the long lowness of the facade, but there are rusticated quoins to break things up a little. Grade I listed. The house is privately owned but regularly open to the public." Photo by Stephen Richards, 2005.
