War Memorial to the East of Durham Cathedral

    "The First World War memorial next to the east wall of the cathedral comprises a tall round column on a square base with a cross finial of four interlaced bands enclosing a carved cross in low relief. The column is carved in spirals resembling the piers of the cathedral; triangles within the spirals contain low-relief carvings of items of soldiers' kit and weapons. The base is inscribed 1914-1918.
