Passenger trains on CK&P operated by London & North Western Railway.....The Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith Railway (CK&P) chose not to use the existing station at Cockermouth which had been opened in April 1847 as the eastern terminus of the Cockermouth & Workington Railway (CW). Cockermouth 1st station was inconveniently placed west of the town and its site was constricted to the north by the River Derwent..."
