Old Milepost by the A696, Nun Hill, south of Belsay

    "Metal post with attached metal plate by the A696, in parish of BELSAY (CASTLE MORPETH District), Ogle, near Nunhill Farm, North of The Highlander Inn, on grass verge, on West side of road. Smith Patterson iron shield, erected by the Ponteland turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- NEWCASTLE {arrow to left} 12 BELSAY 1¾ {arrow to right} PONTELAND 4 Maker:- : SMITH PATTERSON / & CO / BLAYDON : Milestone Society National ID: NB_NCBS12."
