Description
"This is the site of an 18th century pottery. In the 1740s this site is noted in the Newcastle-based newspapers for leasing. This gives some details about the site. Earthenware pottery was produced here and the "manufactory", as it was then termed, was thought "the finest in the north". There were kilns, buildings and grounds advertised to be let. In the later 19th century the site of the kilns was noted by the antiquarian the Rev John Hodgson...." -
