    "Metal plates attached to stone post by the UC road (was A689), in parish of IRTHINGTON (CARLISLE District), Ruleholme, old road leading to bridge, next to Golden Fleece PH, 50m North East of PH, just before barrier, on West side of road. Military Road plate, erected by the Carlisle & Temon (Military Road) turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : TO NEW / CASTLE / 49 / MILES : : TO CAR / LISLE / 7 / MILES : Carved bench mark at top left. Grade II Listed.
