Market Cross - Horsemarket, Darlington, County Durham

  • Description

"A stone column with a large entablature surmounted by a drum and ball. The monument stands on an undressed stone base above a modern four-tiered square base. A local company restored the Cross as a gift to the town, and on 17 May 1993, on Darlington's 40th anniversary of town-twinning with Amiens and Mulhiem, it was reinstalled in an official ceremony. A time capsule of children's work and contemporary artefacts is buried under the base...."
