Down coke empties at Metal Bridge, approaching Tursdale Junction

  • Description

"View southward, towards Ferryhill; ex-North Eastern ECML. (See also http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2141659). The train of high-capacity coke wagons, more modern version of the large wooden wagons employed earlier by the North Eastern Railway for this traffic, is headed by Q6 0-8-0 No. 63458. On the busy four-track section it is passing an Up freight on its right, apparently headed by an ex-WD 2-8-0 - never a dull moment, even on a Saturday afternoon." Photo by Ben Brooksbank, 1954.
