  • Description

"Built in 1899 by Benjamin Simpson. Cast iron frame with ashlar facades in free classical style, combining such features as giant pilasters with only a third of their height fluted, and windows with over-large keystones. Simpson was subsequently the architect responsible for some Art Nouveau buildings in Newcastle, including [[1679405]] and [[1692981]] (both photographed by Andrew Curtis). The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1024794 . See also [[4411744]]. The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.25. See [[4406042]]."
