Hexham: Cockshaw Burn at Tanners Row

  • Description

"This area was once the site of Hexham's tanning industry. The fast-flowing waters of two burns were used in the preparation of the hides. Sheepskin gloves called Hexham Tans were popular but cheaper imports saw a decline in manufacture in the 1830s." Photo by John Sutton, 2021.
