Description
"House. 1822 by John Dobson for T.E. Headlam; extensive additions and alterations - porch dated 1897 - by F.W. Rich for Sir Andrew Noble. Rock-faced sandstone with chiselled margins, ashlar dressings and plinth; left range has upper timber frame with infill of pebble-dash render; roofs of plain tiles with roll-moulded gable copings. Irregular plan. Tudor style. 2 storeys and attics; 5 bays. Boarded door recessed in open-arched battlemented 2-storey porch in second bay with coat of arms and date 1897 carved in arts-and-crafts-style panels under ground floor corbel-table....Interior a typical late C19 magnate's house, eclectic and rich, with some special features e.g. Frosterley marble fenders, William de Morgan tiles to sitting-room fireplace; Great Hall with elaborate Jacobean panelling and carving to chimney piece..." -
