Old Milestone by the B6277, north of Ashgill Bridge

    "Carved stone post by the B6277, in parish of ALSTON MOOR (EDEN District), East of Ashgillside, on the verge; near rusty iron gate and opposite above footpath sign to Garrigill, on West side of road. Alston stone, erected by the Alston turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- To ALSTON 5 MILES MIDDLETON 17 MILES Grade II Listed.
