Memorial: MARYPORT

  • Description

    "....Red Sandstone wall on three sides of a square with three identical Bronze plaques. The Park gates and railings are also part of the memorial. There is also a separate Celtic Cross of Red Granite-on each side high up is a sword of relief, representative of victory and right. An obelisk was later added to the site to commemorate those who fought in the Second World War. Two stepped square base surmounted by obelisk. Inscription in black lettering and carved wreath at the top of the front face. A separate plaque to E B Smith was also added. The tank presented to the town in 1920 was in one corner of the gardens..."
