The Mortal Man inn sign, Troutbeck

  • Description

""O mortal man that lives by bread, What is it makes thy nose so red? Thou silly fool, that look'st so pale, 'Tis drinking Sally Birkett's ale." Sally Birkett's ale must have been good! This sign is a modern replica of one painted by Julius Caesar Ibbetson who stayed here on a fishing trip. The inn was originally called the White House." Photo by Stephen McKay, 2018.
