Market Cross, Hesket Newmarket, Caldbeck CP
-
Description
"This was made in the 18C, although it had to be rebuilt after a car collided with one of the pillars. There is a ball finial on top of the pyramid roof. The interior of the cross is used every year as the setting for a life-size nativity scene (and also serves as a bus shelter!). There is also a bull ring just outside of the cobbled floor. The small building, now a cottage, was the stables, later garage, for Hesket Hall. The first floor was once used as a reading room." Photo by Humphrey Bolton, 2006. -
