Shoe Trees In Armstrong Park

Description
This is probably the strangest tree in the UK! In a small park in the Heaton/Jesmond Dene area of Newcastle upon Tyne you will come across a large Sycamore tree that at times is literally bending with the weight of shoes hung up in it's branches! The local council occasionally strip shoes from it to aviod the tree from getting too damaged however, it would appear that other nearby trees are now being used. Legend has it that it was started by students who threw their shoes in the air to celebrate passing their finals! -
