(b) The Wrightson Coal-shipper: (1) Cramlington CoalCompany s Staithes, Howclon Dock (Tyne).—This coal-shipper{Figs. 59, 60, and 61) has already been described by Mr. JohnMorison.* The quantity which can be removed by the presentmachine has been found to be a 4-ton wagon in 30 seconds, or at therate of 480 tons per hour. With a broader belt, and a greater depthof coal, both of which are practicable, there would be no difficultyin removing even larger quantities; but, owing to existing con-ditions, at present only 300 tons per hour can be run down the * Trans. Had, however, 10-ton wagons been used instead of thoseof only 4 tons capacity, the quantity of coal dealt with would haveamounted to 1,200 tons per hour.
