Old Milestone by the A595, south of Distington

    "Metal plate attached to stone post by the A595, in parish of DISTINGTON (COPELAND District), Common End, nr first house and signs to Workington Crematorium; N of Boot Bridge, on grass verge, on West side of road. Whitehaven plate stone, erected by the Whitehaven turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : TO WORKINGTON / 4 / TO COCKERMOUTH / 10 MILES : : {plate missing} (WHITEHAVEN / 4) : Listed. Milestone Society National ID: CU_WHWO04." Photo by CF Smith, 2010.
