Murton Council School, North Tyneside
-
Description
"Established in 1877 as New York Board School, under Murton School Board, soon becoming known as Murton Board School. Due to its position near the boundary of two areas, it was jointly funded under an agreement with Tynemouth School Board, and accepted pupils from both areas. Transferred to Northumberland Education Authority, and then in 1935 to Tynemouth Education Department. The Senior department closed in 1940, with older pupils transferring to Shiremoor Senior School. The school closed in 1991 due to falling rolls and local school rationalisation, amalgamating with nearby Moorhouse Primary School (see E.SH5) to form New York Primary School..." -
