New York Primary School

New York Primary School is a community school located on Lanark Close, near New York / North Shields. The school has about 350 pupils aged 2 to 11.[1] The first school on this site was known as Moorhouse Primary School, which opened here in 1973. Then in September 1991, Moorhouse Primary School and Murton Council School (at a different site), were amalgamated to form New York Primary School on the present Lanark Close site.

New York Board School (at a different site) was established in 1877, later becoming known as Murton Board School. It was jointly funded with Tynemouth School Board, and accepted pupils from both board areas. The school's senior department closed in 1940, with older pupils transferring to Shiremoor Senior School. The primary school (Murton Council School) closed in 1991 when it was merged Moorhouse Primary School.[2]
