    "Ancient parish in Cumberland ward, Cumberland, comprising four townships: Wetheral, Scotby, Cumwhinton & Cotehill, and Warwick Bridge & Great Corby (each treated separately below). CP enlarged by absorbing Warwick CP 1934. Part of CP transferred to Carlisle 1951...Population: rising from 376 in 1801 to 666 in 1861. Landownership: core of endowment of Wetheral Priory, founded c.1100, passing after Dissolution to Dean and Chapter of Carlisle....."
