The Black Gate

  • Description

"This is the barbican built in 1247 to guard the north gate of the castle at Newcastle. The name comes from a former tenant in the C17. In the late C19 it was purchased by the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle, who restored it and added the top floor and pitched roof." Photo by Robert Graham, 2018.
