    "This marble statue sits in the middle of Main Street in honour of Earl Mayo who was Cockermouth's MP for 10 years from 1857. He was appointed to the post of Viceroy to India in 1869 where he served until he was stabbed to death in the Andaman Islands in 1872." Photo by Jennifer Petrie, 2019.
