Description
"Real Ale Pub and famous venue for live music and poetry http://www.thecumberlandarms.co.uk The present three storey brick building is the result of a major rebuild in 1899 following the collapse of the previous pub during major alterations. There are great views from the front terrace [[2811420]] There is another photo here [[1064948]] The Cumberland Arms was first licensed as a beer house in 1862 and converted into a pub in 1898. It wasn't granted a spirits license until 1956. The bar from the former Haymarket Hotel in Newcastle is now in the upper room. It was once owned by Jocker Wood, who owned a number of other pubs in the area http://www.flickr.com/photos/newcastlelibraries/4083394257/ He was a sporting legend and champion at quoits, bagatelle, golf, cycling and pigeon racing. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Where+have+all+the+good+pubs+gone%3F+taste+OF+THE+NORTH+EAST+beer+WITH...-a0167144939" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2012. -
