THE WATERFORD FOUNTAIN - Ford - List Entry

    "Former fountain, now planter. c.1860 for Lady Waterford, commemorating the death of her husband in 1859. Sandstone ashlar basin, granite base to column, polished pink granite column; sandstone statue. Large quatrefoil-shaped basin with cable-moulded edge. 4 lions-head spouts at the corners drain into semicircular overflow basins. In the centre a tall Corinthian column on an octagonal base with alternate sides projecting; from them project stone water spouts. The sides between have worn inscriptions including the legend "with joy shall ye drink out of the well of salvation. Drink ye abundantly O beloved"....."
