The Old Motor House, Rothbury

  • Description

"I am old enough to remember when this was a 'proper' garage - in the late 1950s and early 1960s we had an annual visit to Cragside (before it belonged to the National Trust) - a date close to 6th June was favoured, when the heavily-scented azaleas were still in flower and enough rhododendrons had come into bloom to make the journey around the estate truly spectacular (I am disappointed with the National Trust's persistent rhododendron-bashing policy). Anyway .... when our ancient Austin at last limped exhausted into Rothbury on our journey from Tyneside, we used to fill up with petrol here. There is an interesting history of the garage on this Heritage website http://transportheritage.com/find-heritage-locations.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=696 - see also [[2515941]]."
