New tree planting, upper Longsleddale

  • Description

"In the uppermost part of the dale new trees are being planted in a fenced-off corridor on both sides of the infant River Sprint. This seems to be a recent project (there were no trees on my last visit 18 months ago) and would appear to extend all the way up to the old slate quarries at Wren Gill. Indeed, we even encountered new plantings on the summit of Adam Seat at well over 600m altitude. It will take decades but the river may one day flow through woodland, a very different prospect to the bare, bleak scene today." Photo by Karl and Ali, 2014.
